By-Laws

Each martial arts school will have By-Laws or rules in which the students are united.  This is on method of making a club become a true club.  Some of the basic By-Laws in which the students of the CHA-3 Kenpo Association should follow are:

  1. Attendance should be as ample as possible.
  2. No horseplaying during training hours.
  3. No profanity will be tolerated during training hours.
  4. Respect others in and out of class.
  5. Refrain from demonstrating or bragging about the art.
  6. Do not wear any jewelry during training hours.
  7. Do not attend training sessions while intoxicated.
  8. Respect and listen to all instructions at all times.
  9. Keep fingernails and toenails short or taped during training.
  10. Always be humble and polite.
  11. Always show respect when entering and leaving the training area and do your part to keep the training area clean.

Respect

Kenpo Karate begins and ends with respect.  All training sessions begin with respect to greater powers than yourself as well as respect to the instructor.  At the end of each session students pay respect to greater powers, the instructor as well as his classmates.  Respect also takes place prior to entering and leaving the training area (Dojo).  Respect is also given prior to each sparring session.

Kiai

The Kiai is the concentration of power and the mind in to one specific spot.  This is done utilizing the stomach muscles as well as the breathing of an individual.  The Kiai is the sound in which a Kenpo Karate student gives out when striking out a blow to his opponent.  This sound also has a psychological effect on his or her opponent.  An example while lifting heavy weights.  Further explaination of the Kiai will be given during actual workout sessions.

Notations

Kenpo Karate cannot be learned by books.  It takes a lot of physical practice for one to truly develop and perfect the art of Kenpo Karate.  Any martial art that a person can learn he will benefit.  The development of the art and the perfection of self-defense depends solely on the individual and how he applies the art he or she has learned.  Kenpo Karate itself is used to protect yourself, your loved ones and your family.  This doesn't mean that a person looks for trouble and then tries to protect himself when trouble comes.  Kenpo Karate always begins and ends in humbleness.  Through humbleness one can avoid trouble.  Through humbleness one learns self-control and also how to talk to another person who is heated and ready to fight.  This is how Kenpo should be applied.  At times it is impossible.  The  Kenpo Karate man will "defend" himself with physical action.  Kenpo Karate is not in the belt itself.  It is not in the club which one attends.  There are many persons who wear black belts and run various clubs around the world.  Many of these persons haven't the faintest idea of what Kenpo or Karate is.  As you go along in training you will find out what is meant by the above mentioned statements.
